Great Western Railway (GWR) Class 230 battery-electric train. This train, which is a converted former London Underground D-Stock unit, recently set a new world record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge. The train traveled 200 miles on a return journey from Reading, via London Paddington and Oxford, without charging. The record was set on August 20, 2025, surpassing the previous record of 139 miles. The trial is part of GWR's efforts to explore alternatives to diesel traction and move towards a cleaner, greener railway.
