Class 60 diesel locomotives appear abandoned and in a state of disrepair. These locomotives were built by Brush Falcon Works in Loughborough between 1989 and 1991 for heavy freight work, before restoration.
Nearly at the end for steam, Class 8F 48510 labours up to the top of the 1-100 climb from Derby having just emerged from the 464 yd Mickleover tunnel with a goods train on 27th September 1966, which was my local station before the beeching cuts.

The LMS Turbomotive, arguably the most successful British steam turbine loco. Built in 1935, it was rebuilt as a conventional steam loco in 1952 only to be destroyed in the Harrow & Wealdstone disaster after only 8 weeks of service.
J&L Narrow Gauge Railroad's locomotive No. 58, a 1937 Porter saddle tank locomotive, operating on a 24-inch gauge track in Pennsylvania.
