United States Army Transport Corps S-160 2-8-0s Part 1, needed a heavy goods steam locomotive for use in Europe and Africa. The result was the USATC S-160 2-8-0. Large numbers of these were shipped to Britain in preparation for the D-Day landings, and more were later shipped direct to continental Europe
