48151, the locomotive pictured, is one of several Stanier 8Fs in preservation. It was withdrawn from service in 1968, sent for scrap, saved by the Yorkshire Dales railway and restored. Picture taken in Coalville, the line is still in use.

A total of 43 units have been built - 31 three-car units and 12 four-car units - at a cost of £500m.
