1/3. The Fell diesel-mechanical prototype locomotive (numbered 10100 by British Railways) at Derby. Probably a loco my father helped to design British Railways 10100 was an unusual experimental diesel locomotive known informally as The Fell Diesel Locomotive. Experimental LMR Diesel-Mechanical 4-8-4 at Derby. . LMS/Fell 2-D-2 Diesel-Mechanical No. 10100 was designed as a prototype 2,000hp locomotive and built in 1950, but only began trials in 1/51. In 1/52 it began scheduled work on passenger trains between Derby and Manchester Central by the Peak Line: it continued, with some prolonged interruptions, on this line until it broke down in 10/58 and was withdrawn, but it was not scrapped until 7/60. Although a comparative success, the design was not perpetuated. 4. LMS / Fell experimental Diesel Loco 10100 at Derby Loco works after a fire in 1958, thereafter withdrawn.

Horns Bridge is a small area on the SE edge of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, which was well known for its congested intersection of roads, rivers and railways. The picture shows the lines of three Railway Companies - at the bottom is part of the Great Central 'Chesterfield loop', in the middle is the Midland Railway main line and at the top is the LD&ECR's ( Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway) line from Chesterfield Market Place station to Lincoln (the train is heading east - towards Lincoln). In addition to the railways, there were two main roads (to Derby and to Mansfield) and two rivers (the Rother and Hipper). Demolition began in 1984 and by the 1990's very little remained - except the Midland main line.

The M-497 was a railcar test bed of the New York Central Railroad, developed and tested in 1966. It uses two General Electric J47-19 jet engines, the ones that the Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" used. On July 23, 1966, the car reached a speed of 183.68 mph, an American rail speed record that still stands today.
